Veronica Correa

Teacher

In 2010 during my high school years a seed was planted in me after choosing yoga as my elective for physical education. It wasn’t until later down the road where this seed began to sprout after stepping foot into The Yoga Den in Corona, California where I took my first yoga class. There was a fire that sparked within me and I knew that I would continue and grow this practice forever.

I have been practicing yoga for over 6 years and have received a 200 hour certification through The Yoga Den.

As someone who works a 9-5 job Monday-Friday finding balance between work and personal life can be challenging from time to time. That is why I value the importance of living a well-balanced lifestyle, staying active, and incorporating yoga and meditation to our daily lives.

Yoga has given me so much more than the physical ability to improve my strength, flexibility, and balance. It has given me the confidence and courage to step into my power and find my purpose on this planet.

I am a student of life and divinely guided by the universe. I am always learning and growing so that I am able to teach and practice alongside all of you. My goal as a yoga instructor is to provide my students with peace and confidence that I feel every time I step onto my mat. Let’s flow together!

Jeannette Ali with Raising Consciousness Yoga

Teacher

Jeannette first discovered yoga in community college in 2005. Always thinking of herself as inflexible and not being able to touch her toes in forward fold, she became fascinated with yoga’s capabilities to increase flexibility and strength. Jeannette practiced yoga solely as a physical exercise until 2017 when she had a profound heart opening experience in a yoga class. That’s when all the aspects of yoga opened up to her and she enrolled at Western Yoga College for their 7 month long 200 hour teacher training. Described as “one of the most important times of her life” Jeannette knew that yoga needed to be shared with the world. Since her YTT graduation in May of 2019, Jeannette’s classes have evolved to include guided meditation and crystal bowl sound healing. Her yoga style is diverse including yin, chair, restorative, and slow powerful flows. Jeannette is a mom of 3 and started free mommy and me yoga classes for her local community. She is currently developing a free coaching program to help connect women to mindfulness and the self. Jeannette is a nature lover and enjoys outdoor adventures with her family.

Tara Swoboda

Teacher

Hi there, yogis! I'm a yogi mama from California. I tried yoga for the first time while in college as a way to create some weekly quiet time for my mind. I couldn't touch my toes in a forward fold at my first class, but I fell in love and have been practicing ever since.

That was back in 2003, and since then I've tried various types of yoga, attended yoga retreats, immersed myself in yoga workshops, completed a vegan nutritionist diploma, and finally earned my RYT200 with Big Bear Yoga nearly 20 years after my first yoga class. I'm now working on my RYT500 with Cloud Nine Yoga and love teaching beginners. My yoga classes focus on embracing personal strengths, establishing calm, and appreciating where and who we are in the moment. I hope to bring new yogis the same feelings of Sukha and Sthira that I discovered, bringing them the confidence of everlasting inner strength, comfort and joy.

I offer personalized in-person yoga sessions and yoga hikes in Big Bear as well as gentle weekly online stretching sessions. For our kiddo yogis, I offer online kids yoga camps to build strong foundations and explore yoga in a fun, safe way. Join me in person or online to start or enhance your practice at yogaprayer365.com.

My yoga sessions at the 2023 Big Bear Yoga Festival focus on Sun Salutations -- I hope to see you there, yogis!

Namaste and Blessings,

Tara

Leeza Villagomez of YOGADEN Health Spa

Teacher

Leeza Villagomez was drawn to yoga right out of high school. The next steps in life did not resonate with the expectations of society. After experiencing chakra meditation and the benefits she quickly realized there is another way to balance "this thing called life” she wanted to know more emotionally, mentally and physically. Leeza is no stranger to learning ancient lineages as her Portuguese mother comes from Maui, Hawaii. Leeza grew up on a small farm, showed horses, practiced Hawaiian, Tahitian, Polynesian and Mauri dancing 3 days a week and was part of a “Halau”. Most of her birthdays were Luaus with the Boteilho Kula(family). It was a natural step for her to begin practicing yoga. Over the course of many years Leeza has had the pleasure of studying many different styles of yoga, Ayurveda to Vedanta and she feels as if she just started the journey to self-realization. Having added ancient Shamanic practices she believes this is a tool everyone can benefit from. Join Leeza for an eclectic flow class for all levels.

She invites you to crack open your heart, weave in the 5 senses and 5 elements in this all levels yoga class. Breathing, moving, laughing, stretching, dancing, meditating and healing all included. Lokah, Samastah, Sukhino, Bhavantu… May all beings everywhere be happy and free.

Since then, I have taught students one on one, in a gym setting, and have even volunteered at Hunt Elementary School in San Bernardino, Ca. teaching yoga and yogic theory to 2nd and 3rd grade students. Yoga has been a transformative asset in my life. What began as a desire to teach pregnant women how to practice yoga as they ventured into motherhood, soon became a passionate desire to share yoga at all levels, in all aspects, to anyone who will listen. My personal yogic instructional style usually involves setting an intention that falls within the teachings of the eight limbs of yoga. From there, we breathe, Om, connect, flow, release, surrender, heal. Yoga is such a gift… one thatI hope to share more and more. -Namaste

Knowing she needed to immerse herself into something healthy, she searched for answers and found herself in yoga teacher training. In June 2016, she earned a 200 hour certification. Incorporating a physical practice, Ayurveda, Holistic Nutrition, Mindfulness and Meditation into her life has sent her disease into remission.

With this she is encouraged to share her experiences of healing. Specifically; restorative yoga, yin yoga, meditation, and nutrition. In her journey she has worked with people recovering from spinal injury, not only for physical recovery, but the emotional recovery needed. As well as others with anxiety, depression and autoimmune disorders.

Currently, she's finding a deep love and appreciation for chair yoga at a local senior center and substance abuse rehabilitation center.

Christie Hall

Teacher

I am a teacher with no woo-woo. Suffering from joint and disc degeneration, I began studying yoga in 1995. The pain relief brought on by regular practice led me to want to share the gift of yoga and to start teaching in 1997. Since then, I have studied continuously with senior teachers of Iyengar yoga. I specialize in assisting students struggling with physical problems. My personal physical problems have given me a particular interest in anatomy in the context of yoga and in studying therapeutic yoga modifications. But far beyond the physical, yoga has transformed my life in a journey of discovery that continues every day.

Nova

Teacher

For over a decade yoga has been a constant in my life. Yoga has become a staple and my first choice of “medicine” to go to for my own mental and physical health. Even before taking formal training, I have been sharing yoga with friends on hikes and other gatherings. As an intuitive healer I enjoy bringing an individual approach to each class, rejuvenating the spirit and soothing the soul through movement. My choice of music depends on the mood of the day, and often comes with a few surprises. The goal is to leave one feeling alive and refreshed, with renewed focus and energy, and perhaps a slightly new outlook on life.

Dr. Manoj Chalam

Manoj (people call him a spiritual standup comedian) uses an uniquely entertaining, interactive story telling style using Hindu/Buddhist deities in his workshops to illuminate Bhakti practices as well as deep non dual philosophy. He teaches at festivals, yoga events, his ashram and whoever wants to listen.

Manoj uses these deity archetypes to help people in their hero’s journey as elucidated by Joseph Campbell and Carl Jung. An Indian-born scientist with a PhD in Chemical engineering from Cornell University, Manoj helps individuals find their archetypes in Hindu/Buddhist Yogic deities and teaches the 5 practices to work with their archetype as a spiritual practice. He has also compiled a book on the symbolisms of these deity archetypes.

Manoj is in the business of story telling to inspire people. He has many you tube videos with deity statues as a compelling media to tell stories. Manoj was interviewed by the Ram Dass foundation for their podcast on "The Deities". Manoj, Kurt, Jack and Beth have created an “online ashram” under Patreon. Under Murtis and Vedanta Youtube Chanel.

Manoj teaches workshops at a physical ashram in his home in San Diego called Sakhya Bhava Ashram (where the divine is your friend). Manoj’s workshops are usually 70% lecture/group exercises, 15% archetypical deity yoga meditations, 10% Mantra chantings and 5% light spiritual stretches.

Blanca Guevara Wright

Teacher

My call and purpose is to support my community through the practice of Yoga and the embodied breath. I was led to Yoga by my Sunset teacher almost a decade ago- during the pandemic I lost him and was led to follow an inner calling that led me to attain my yoga teacher credentials through Western Yoga College. In the last year I have discovered trauma conscious yoga and was led to receive my certification in the TCYM methodology. I currently lead all my offerings through a trauma informed lense that supports awareness and support to our most vulnerable population and all students. I am here to empower and share this magic elixir with as many people as possible. To share the power or Yoga and the power of our breath.

I hope our paths cross up on the mountain (at the festival, not during a rescue) and we have a chance to meet!

Cathleen Coombs

Cathleen has had a long-time passion for yoga. After practicing over 17 years, she pursued a 200 hour YTT (Yoga Alliance Certified) in Hatha Yoga in the midst of the Pandemic in June 2020. Cathleen joined the team at Refresh in May 2021.

Cathleen has worked in the field of rehabilitation counseling, serving people with disabilities for 33 years. Influenced by the idea of accessibility for all, Cathleen aligns her teaching with this principle. Cathleen loves to teach yoga to the beginner that may be too intimidated to try yoga, but also teach to the experienced yogi that is ready to advance his or her practice.

Her classes focus on the power of the pranayama coupled with correct alignment for a safe and energizing yoga practice. Desiring students to have a complete experience, each class is built around a theme that is woven through the practice and closing meditation, encouraging students to connect with their deepest self, taking the lessons and awareness gained on the mat out into the world.

“We are all wonderfully made and beautiful. Practice loving kindness to ourselves and each other.”

Cathleen teaches at Refresh on the Mountain in Crestline: Mixed level Vinyasa on Saturday and Altitude PT and Fitness in Blue Jay 1-2 Sundays per month. Free yoga classes available by Zoom on Wednesdays (Yin) and Tuesdays (Hatha-Vinyasa)

Aja Whitten

Teacher

My 15 year relationship with yoga has revealed that it is quite simply an enlivening system of balance and liberation left to is by our Nubian ancestors. Continuing in this tradition, I have studied with Purusha Hickson through the Iyengar rooted lineage of Turiyasangitananda (also known as Alice Coltrane). I was initiated into Kemetic yoga through Yirser Ra Hotep of the YogaSkills method and have been facilitating classes that incorporate these two traditions. I am a certified Ra Sekhi Energy Worker and certified massage therapist. I interweave ancestral traditions and also call in plant allies in restoring balance often in the form of womb steams and limpias.

Marianne Hamilton

Teacher

I discovered Delores Cannon after a friend introduced me to her first book, Five Lives Remembered. Delores developed QHHT organically. I found her story and her journey remarkable. I was so intrigued by this woman and her passion to ask questions and search out answers that I spent years reading her books and watching endless interviews and listening to her podcasts. When I first learned of Delores, she was still living and travelling the world teaching and practicing QHHT and she was writing many books on what she was learning from The Higher-Self during her sessions. I decided that I would one day travel to meet her in Arkansas, where she lived, and that I would train under her to become a QHHT practitioner. Sadly, Delores passed in 2014. I did however, travel to Ureka Springs Arkansas to receive training, from Delores' daughter, Julia, in May of 2018.

Quantum Healing Hypnosis Technique practice is called Higher-self Guidance. It is a kind of alternative therapy that helps the client to move into a deep state of relaxation. The word "hypnosis" may seem to mystify this technique. I have also heard it called "Interactive Guided Meditation" by Practitioner Tiffany Parker. I appreciate this title given to the practice; I feel it explains the process in a way that sounds more approachable.

I love the experience of guiding people on this journey of self-discovery. Through this process, I am able to facilitate an individual's own connection to themselves. I am excited to be able to introduce this remarkable technique, this year at the Big Bear Yoga Festival.
