From Betsy, “A diagnosis of fibromyalgia gave me the incentive to come to yoga to help heal my body, mind and spirit. I was certified by my Guru through the Sajni Yoga Center in Bangalore, India. Other blessings along the way include co-founding Gita Yoga Learning Center where I have trained and certified several 200 and 500 hour yoga instructors, and provide continuing education units through Yoga Alliance. I was able to study with Dr. Larry Payne with whom I continued my education in POLY (Prime of Life Yoga) obtaining my POLY500 through SAMATA/LMU. I received my certification in Yoga Nidra with Dr. Marc Halpern (California College of Ayurveda) and most recently acquired my certification in Back Care Yoga (Vista Yoga Academy). My own body and health issues showed me that not only was I going to heal myself but that it was my Dharma to help others do the same. There is no greater joy than watching people leave our time together, with happy faces and lighter hearts. With that in mind I followed my calling even further obtaining my Reiki Master certification leading me to the world of energy healing.
I have been given the opportunity to study with some of the most amazing teachers. I have gathered wisdom from the masters to the ones who are not as well known. There is nothing quite as lovely as sharing everything they have given me to help others heal their bodies, their minds, their spirit by showing them the joys of finding and living their truth.
It is a blessing to serve and to be a part of a community of loving, caring healers.”
Betsy welcomes all levels in a journey enjoying Yoga Nidra Healing Meditation. Get ready to let go!

Sukhmani with live music by SUKHA
Teacher & Musician
Sukha is Southern California based husband/wife team Sukhmani and Sukhman. Sukha exists to help people fall in love with the power and magic of mantra. They play their own blend of unique and modern “rock inspired” mantra music for classes, events and festivals and tour extensively usually with an eclectic mix of world-class musicians and instruments. Sukha is often a part of many of Sukhmani’s Kundalini Yoga classes. They usually include relaxing gong, bowl and didgeridoo sound healing as an added relaxation treat. Their critically acclaimed mantra album “Rise” was released in March 2016 and the band is almost finished with the follow-up, “Cusp”. They were on the 2016 Grammy® Ballot for Best New Age Album of The Year. Sukha is known for their high-vibration delivery to allow people to experience singing, sound, and mantra meditation in an accessible format for all.
Sukhmani, E-RYT, YACEP, has been practicing yoga for 20 years. Her passion for yoga grew exponentially when she began practicing Kundalini Yoga. Being an accomplished singer and songwriter who studied at Berklee College of Music, she was hooked by the rhythms and energy of the postures, music, and mantras used in classes. As she went deeper into the practice, she realized that Kundalini Yoga and Meditation is a transformational experience and sharing the teachings with others seemed like the natural thing to do. Sukhmani and her longtime musical partner/husband formed the mantra band, Sukha in 2011. Sukha’s mantra rock concept album “Rise” released worldwide in 2016 and Sukha has been touring the US doing concerts and workshops. Rise was on the Grammy® Ballot for Best New Age Album of the Year in 2016 and has received many accolades. Sukhmani utilizes sound and the sound current by incorporating mantra and chanting meditation in her classes (often with her band, Sukha) as well as the use of instruments such as gongs and tibetan and quartz bowls to help restore the intrinsic state of balance in the body.

From LoriAnn, “I am a Texas License Master Social Worker and a Clinical Associate Social Worker in California, who has worked extensively as a medical social worker since 1998 with patients and families facing a chronic and terminal illnesses by providing therapeutic interventions on honoring end of life process, regaining quality of life, living with grief/loss, and facilitating support groups. A common thread among many of my patients and their love ones was: losing a reason to laugh; and feeling confined and restricted from reconnecting to their inner joy and freedom. After becoming a certified Vinyasa Yoga instructor in 2016, I pursued my Laughter Yoga certifications: Yoga Laughter leader and teacher, and have been incorporating the various techniques of found in Laughter yoga and Vinyasa Yoga to facilitate healing of the mind, body and soul. I continue to promote these methods in community settings, as well as, offering training and certification for those interested in spreading laughter and joy.”
Following along the concepts related to natural movement, dance, child-like joy, and breath, and guided by a certified Laughter Yoga instructor, Laughter Yoga is a delightful practice of intentional laughter. Each session includes the fundamentals of what is yogic breath, simple stretches and laughter exercises. Lastly, crowning the laughter session by a brief gratitude and meditation, similar to Savasana, aimed at being completely awake while being fully relaxed.
Some of the benefits of Laughter Yoga includes: increase blood flow, decreased cortisone levels, increase of endorphins, decrease stress levels, and promotes overall sense of well-being and even relieve pain. Prior yoga experience is not required, nor any degree of athleticism; only a desire to re-ignite a child-like laughter within oneself. Laughter Yoga sessions are a judgement free zone where one is encouraged to experience the full benefits of healing through laughter. All levels welcome.

Alona Smith is a friend of Big Bear Yoga Festival, and has been with us since the first year. Here is what Alona shares, “I began practicing Yoga over fifteen years ago, yet I feel I have been practicing asanas (postures) since I was a child and before I knew these postures had names. A knee injury I received after running a marathon led me to my first class. There I received more than just a workout. It was spiritual and emotional and a sure introduction into what would then become my way of life.
My intentions as a teacher and as founder of the Anam Cara studio are to be compassionate, empowering, and inspiring, and to create a safe and fun environment where students can learn to listen to, honor and respect their bodies, achieve more balance in life, reduce stress, and increase flexibility. I believe that continual physical movement, meditation, mind/body awareness and good nutrition are the road to well being and happiness. I received my teacher training under Scott Miller at Western Yoga College. My classes emphasize a balance of strength and ease in the body, with attention to alignment and safety. I enjoy working with people of all ages, body sizes, shapes, abilities and genders, helping them feel comfortable with yoga and themselves.”
Alona will guide you in an Ashtanga Yoga Practice. All levels are welcome.
