Suffering from joint and disc degeneration, I began studying yoga in 1995. The pain relief brought on by regular practice led me to want to share the gift of yoga and to start teaching in 1997. I have studied continuously with certified Iyengar teachers since 1997, starting with Karin O’Bannon. (I am forever grateful to have known Karin, who died June 10, 2013.) In September 2005, I had the great good fortune to study under BKS Iyengar and senior teachers at the Yoga Journal Conference in Colorado. I attended the National Iyengar Yoga Conventions in St. Paul, Minnesota, in May 2004 and in Las Vegas in May 2007, where Geeta Iyengar led all instruction. In July 2007, I found my practice transformed further through the Iyengar Intensive at the Yogacharya Festival taught by the world’s top Iyengar teachers. I study regularly with Manouso Manos. I take workshops and specialized classes at the Iyengar Yoga Institute of Los Angeles. I attended the regional Iyengar conferences in 2012 in Washington, D.C., and in 2013 in San Diego.
I am an Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT) at the 200-hour level with Yoga Alliance. I completed my master’s degree in human movement in November 2009.
My classes are excellent for prenatal students. I specialize in assisting students struggling with physical problems. I understand the fear of re-injury that often results. Both my hips are artificial implants. Many vertebrae in the lumbar, thoracic and cervical spine are unstable, and as a result, several spinal discs have disintegrated. I have mild scoliosis and fibromyalgia. The joint disintegration was first diagnosed in my knees in 1984. The physical problems have given me a particular interest in anatomy in the context of yoga.
But far beyond the physical, yoga has transformed my life. I have found the person within through yoga: I found someone courageous where I had always been fearful; I found someone who could be content after decades of longing and frustration; I found someone who didn’t have to be angry all the time. And the journey of discovery continues every day. Christie Hall currently shares her gifts at Fun Yoga Studio
